Use Your Mac visits the Apple Expo in Paris

Unfortunately, there was no Keynote this year. Some days earlier, Apple revealed the new iMac line, along with the new Mac Mini. A press conference was held in San Francisco, for the opening of the Apple Expo, transmitted to some reporters, invited to follow the event, in... London.
New iPods and a forthcoming movie selling service through iTunes Store, were the most attractive products, Steve Jobs demonstrated, during this press conference.
Our crew visited the Apple Expo and brings you some photos.

A (curious?) detail from the Keynote
2006/08/09 @ 10:13 | Permalink
Last Monday at the Apple WWDC 2006 Keynote.
Steve Jobs and Phil Schiller spoke long about
the new Mac Pro (btw, a wow!
machine!). They often mentioned that, in similar
configurations, the Mac Pro is quite
cheaper than the well known as low priced Dells.
However, they never really pronounced the word "cheap". Simply because a Mac cannot be cheap! Elegantly, both presented the new monster as... less expensive!
Apple has a scrupulous attention to detail.
Here is if you want to watch yourself the Keynote.

Good News: StickyBrain discontinued!

For some long years, one of the most helpful
applications in our everyday life is been StickyBrain. Chronos' little software in
the beginning was introduced as an intelligent
alternative to the Stickies, the Mac come-along mini
application. As years passed, it has become a
full featured powerful app, combining most of
the forces of the OS X underlayer, the unique
OpenBase for managing all information in a smart
and user friendly interface.
Needless to say that a lot of our daywork, such
as grabbing info from Safari, gathering notes for
publishing, managing dozens of logins and
passwords, remembering deadlines, taking voice
notes, sending mails or even blogging, is
accomplished thanks to the tools provided by
StickyBrain, being on its v4 by now.
Sometime in its life, StickyBrain saw a big brother coming in the Chronos software family: SOHO Notes. This was a somehow "StickyBrain Plus" app. It could do everything StickyBrain could, plus some more, pro user oriented features. Like synchronizing notes between multiple computers using a .Mac account, accessing multiple note databases simultaneously or even being multi-user capable which means users could share notes with others over a network using the product's client/server technology.
The two apps have run side to side for some time now, targeting each one a slightly different public. Till today that Chronos decided that there was no more any point having two almost identical applications. So StickyBrain goes off-scene, leaving the field to the more powerful SOHO Notes. Chronos says two reasons made them turn this way. First, they want to simplify their product line which eliminates confusion for users. Second, they want to focus their developing and support resources on a single product instead of two products. Which we find is a good thing.
So, StickyBrain has been officially replaced by
SOHO Notes ($39.99). And what
about us, registered StickyBrain users? Will we
be left apart? Not at all!
Registered StickyBrain 4.x users can upgrade to SOHO Notes for FREE. Simply download SOHO Notes and it will automatically recognize and work with your StickyBrain database.
Registered StickyBrain 1.x-3.x users (that is at least last year's upgrade) can upgrade to SOHO Notes for only $25.
Here's why we said StickyBrain discontinued is Good News!
All you have to keep in mind is that, due to the maximum benefit, SOHO Notes takes from the Mac OS X enhancements, it needs a minimum of 10.4.7 (that's the actual) system version. You have it, isn't it?

GarageBand update
2006/04/25 @ 09:37 | Permalink
Apple released a new version of GarageBand, their
music creating and recording software. Being part of
iLife '06, GarageBand is going it's own way
to the music creation area on Mac. More
and more amateur musicians build their little
home studio around GarageBand. The ease of
integration and the numerous ad-ons make it a
very good deal.
To get the new version, if you already have a GarageBand 3 installed, just go to the Apple Menu and ask for news in the Software Update. After analysing your system, the robot will propose you GarageBand 3.0.2 (that's the latest version).

There are no new
functions or tools, just some fixes of known problems
of the previous version. If you use this application,
you should consider upgrading, it's always better to
avoid the little troubles. You'll have to download
32.2 MB. That's one or two minutes through a
broadband connection.

There is also a new pagelet that will allow you list the contents of a collection from your site. And a new function that lets you build local hyperlinks.
If you want to check out Sandvox by yourself, you can download a fully functioning copy of it from the Sandvox download page.
